PERSONAL DETAILS

Finest sporting moment: Silver medal in the World Championships in Dubai 2004 for 10km Freestyle

Tip for the top: Fly with the eagles, don't peck with the hens

First GB selection year: 1997 as a junior, 2003 as a senior

Sporting heroes: Lance Armstrong and Jorg Hoffman

Closest friend in sport: My girlfriend, Steffi Biller

Other sporting successes: I used to play football and tennis in school, but swimming has always taken up most of my time.

Favourite sport other than open water swimming: I like to both play and watch football, particularly Tottenham!

Three words that best describe you: Hard-working, dedicated and motivated

Would most like to meet: Lance Armstrong

Most prized possession: Medals I've won from both European and World Championships

Biggest influence on career: Parents, they have always stood by and encouraged me

Toughest opponent: Thomas Lurz - Germany

Biggest passion away from open water swimming: Tottenham Hotspur!!

How do you prepare to race: To prepare I always train hard so that when I compete I know that the work is done. To relax I like to listen to music and watch T.V, I have the 'Prison Break' box set which I'm really enjoying.

Biggest disappointment: I'm disappointed with the way that I saw last year, because of injuries I didn't get in a good block of work

Ultimate ambition: An Olympic medal Where do you see yourself in 10 years: Hopefully not swimming!!! I still want to be involved in the swimming in some way though
